LITTLE BAY

This pretty place is ideally located in the southern area of the Caribbean. There is a strong French influence in this particular place. Also, the shores are filled with wonderful sites from history that are an important part of this place. For those of view who love taking photographs or breathing in the views, this is the place for you. There is a certain amount of privacy and seclusion that is truly enviable. The sands, the palm trees, and the coral reefs are all a part of this enchanting stretch of beach. There are other beaches that are completely secluded, but Little Bay offers you a balance of both, privacy and people. There are people around and you do get a chance to mix and make friends. If this is what you want, then you’ve come to the right place. This is now becoming a very popular vacation hideout for many people. It has the right kind of blend of crowded places and yet little coves where you can run away to. Just perfect.

One of the biggest benefits is the list of homely and great restaurants that can keep you contented. Like the Da Livio Ristorante, Antoine, Wajang Doll, Shiv Sagar, the Greenhouse, Top Carrot, Hot Tomatoes, The French Corner, and others. Everyday can be a new and flavored dining experience. Take your pick. Also, you can have a picnic lunch packed up by the hotel and have your own little private party on the beach. There are also other local shacks that serve some amazing seafood, go for it. There are plenty of things to keep you occupied throughout the day. Like kayaking, snorkeling, underwater diving, trekking up to the Amsterdam fort, water sports, sun bathing, etc. During the peak season it might be crowded, so you can find a quiet place for yourself to sunbathe in case you are not comfortable.

You can always choose to stay at the Divi Little Bay Beach & Racquet Club. This is a comfortable place with all modern amenities available. The rooms are clean and well done and the service is good. There are a couple of other places that are on the lower side for those who would like to budget their vacation. But boarding and lodging is definitely not a problem in Little Bay. For a grander place, you can choose to stay at the Coral Cove Resort that boasts of its own private beach and cove. This is on the higher side but is worth every cent. It is truly beautiful in the Jamaican sense and is also an ideal place for those who want to have the most unique and romantic weddings possible. Many grand weddings have been held here, and no regrets so far. The flowers, the palm trees, the white sands and the warmth of the Jamaican people, can all be seen at Coral Cove. They can also organize day trips and hiking expeditions for you, which will help explore the Caribbean thoroughly.

Little Bay is truly a place that you should visit at least once in your lifetime. An experience worth every second of your time.

KATOUCHE BAY

A vacation spent in two worlds. That is exactly what Katouche Bay is all about. On one side it has the beauty of the beach and the shimmering turquoise waters and on the other side it has the dense green forest that is so alive. Where else can you get adventure packed in one location but Katouche? For all those of you who want some adventure and excitement and need a break from the sun and the sand, this is the perfect getaway for you. You have a complete balanced vacation, swimming when you want and hiking when you want. The rain forest is plentiful with exotic creatures that you can search out. Also these trails lead to the famous Iguana Cave which is a must see. The whole expedition into the jungle could leave you with unique memories that can never match any other vacation you ever had in any other part of the world. There is a uniqueness that goes unparalleled and unmatched. It still has to pick up in the amount of tourists that visit but slowly and steadily it will. It is placed at the bottom of Anguilla’s only and most beautiful rain forest.

The Massara Resort is one such beautiful place that has the most amazing location. It is not frequented that much because the tourist population is low. But it is soon going to increase as soon as more and more people come to know about it. These seven villas are sea facing and also just about three miles from town and not too far from the airport. You have a great view of the bay too as it is located on the hillside. Some of the rooms have air conditioning. Each and every room contains an iron, a kitchenette, microwave, refrigerator, television, car rental, laundry service and room service. The place also provides free parking and an outdoor tennis court to keep you occupied during your free time. You can also get some exercise too. And remain fit on your vacation. You have the option of dining at Roy’s Place where they serve some amazing seafood like lobsters and king prawns. If you have a car then you can always visit the restaurants close by.

This place is not really an ideal location for swimming or other water activities like snorkeling. But yes it is a place for hiking, picnics or just going on long walks. It is an active occupation as you can go up onto the hill and watch a great sunset atop Katouche Bay. Always wear protective clothing like boots and long pants because of the dry grass and bristles along the paths. Along these paths is another adventure. Look for fossils of sea life that you could actually put in containers and take home as a trophy. This holiday will definitely be different from a normal vacation. And if you like the solitude then this is a great place, as it is not yet very populated and hence a quiet and lovely place to spend a few days away from all the hustle and bustle of busy lives. Enjoy your trip to Katouche Bay!

Dropsey Bay

Anguilla indeed comes with its own sweet little hidden delights. What I’m talking about here is this tiny little cove situated almost in the middle of nowhere – Dropsey Bay known to most people who’ve visited this place as Jobsie Bay. Most people who have visited Dropsey Bay will tell you how reluctant they are to share its whereabouts with other folks for fear of ruining its peacefulness.

Yes, the sand in Dropsey Bay is so fine and powdery like little heavenly drops of heaven, the Caribbean waters in Dropsey are so blue and warm and inviting. This hidden stretch of land makes for a good hideaway if you’re looking for a fun time with your beloved. Picture this – you and your beloved living on an island paradise, away from the daily chaos of small talk and telephone calls, it’s just the two of you’ll living in a world that belongs only to the two of you, swimming into and out of hidden caves with warm waters caressing your bodies and the warm Caribbean sun making love to your skin – that’s life isn’t it? And it is calling out to you!

Dropsey Bay is protected by an offshore barrier reef that helps reduce any swells, making it a fairly safe location to go swimming in. located directly south of Long Pond Bay, Dropsey Bay is ideally located bang in the middle of the Caribbean’s, or so I’ve heard.

Things I’m sure you’d like to do on Dropsey Bay

Known to some as Jobsie Bay, this little unknown territory is a great spot for snorkeling and a good enough spot for beginners. So, if you are looking for a fun, private time with you beloved in a place where snorkeling is quite safe, where the waters are quiet and shallow, then Dropsey Bay is just the place for you. So, if you are looking for snorkeling on a slightly more intimate level, head straight for this paradise on earth. However, there is a word of caution: try to go slow and wear old runners or reef shoes as a safety precaution and you’ll have an unforgettable experience.

It is indeed an amazing place to go exploring. Go for a long walk on the sandy shores and stroll past the large breakers. Beyond the large crashing breakers, lies a calm pool of shallow azure water. Yes, Dropsey will definitely seem like the highlight of your beach and island excursions.

Wade your way or swim over to the right hand side of the bay and you’ll enter a tiny cave with a natural ‘hot tub’ in it – fancy isn’t it? There is also a tiny opening where you can just stand with your partner and take in the views of the coast. Or, you could enter the water and search for the underwater bridge. Even though the waters tend to be calm here, strong currents are not unknown in these parts and tend to run through the underwater bridge and cave at certain times. So, make sure you move slowly and take steps carefully when entering the cave so as to avoid hurting yourself or cutting yourself on the jutting rocks. If you have decided to swim under the bridge, then make sure the sand hasn’t completely filled it in. if not, then hug the base so as to avoid scraping yourself on the hard coral directly above.

The Way to Dropsey Bay

Dropsey Bay is situated directly south of Long Pond. So, to get there you have to first exit the airport parking lot and take your left on Airport Road. Head straight past the National Bank of Anguilla and then take your next right at the famous Albert Lake’s Supermarket. Keep traveling in a straight line for a couple of miles and 100 yards or so past the ‘Tropical Flower’ turn towards your right and head down the road to Long Pond Bay.

Head straight right through the seagrapes across the Long Pond isthmus and this road will lead towards the right, which is the southern side of Long Pond. The road will then turn towards the left and will run directly south towards the coastline. Park your vehicle at the end of the dirt road and from here on follow the path by foot. The path will lead you directly to the beach.

What you’ll get at Dropsey Bay

Unlike other preferred vacation destination spots, there are no houses anywhere close to Dropsey Bay. There is no protection or shade from the wind whatsoever, so if you are looking to laze around and sunbathe, then strike Dropsey Bay out of your list. Remember one thing, when visiting Dropsey Bay, you and your partner will probably be the only two people to walk this isolated stretch of sand.

If you continue westwards, you’ll stroll across a lot more beach and the waters will be shallow (good for snorkeling if you are a beginner). The lucky few who get to visit this beautiful hidden location will spot exotic sea turtles swimming merrily amongst the waves. After you’re done with a long hike and pretty hot from the long walk, what better way to cool yourself off than by jumping right into the calm, natural swimming pool?

There aren’t any places to stay at in Dropsey Bay and as disappointing as it may seem to you, who wants houses and villas and more people to spoil the natural beauty of this long forgotten, oh-so-well hidden paradise on earth? Only once you’ve seen Dropsey Bay you’ll understand what heaven must feel like. You have got to hand it to Anguilla, this place really has it all – from secluded beaches to perfect climates to the best walks ever!

Junks Hole

Journey east across the beautiful islands of Anguilla and stumble across some of the most unusually beautiful sights in the world, and by unusually beautiful I mean unconventional at its very best. Yes, I’m talking about Junk’s hole. Allow me to elaborate – towards the remote, secluded, non-commercial eastern end of the Anguillas lies a spectacular, long and curved bay with fine, sugary sands that extend towards the far horizons with lush green palm trees lining the beaches like a scenic painting made by a divine hand – that’s Savannah Bay for you.

‘The world’s most secluded beach’, Savannah Bay is where you would expect to find one of those glitzy, ritzy upscale resorts with jet-setting guests and a lush swimming pool to boot, but instead all you find is just one building, a lively beach bar – Palm Grove. The corner by this Palm Grove is what is called Junks Hole, since all the junk from the Atlantic Ocean gets washed up here. Now before you reel away in disgust, you should know that the owner of Palm Grove, Nat Richardson, keeps the area pretty much clean.

The bay is generally sandy and shallow along the shore but harsh weather conditions can indeed alter the bay bottom making it deep and dangerous. Very close to Junks Hole is the world famous Captain’s Bay beach and the chances of you having this beach all to yourself are very strong. So, if you are looking for a fun time in the sun and sand, then Captain’s Bay is the right place for you. But, if swimming is more your thing, then Junks Hole is the place you should be heading to.

Getting to Junks Hole

There are several ways of getting to Junks Hole, so worry not. Since Palm Grove has increased in popularity over the past few years and has signs and posters put up all over, it isn’t very difficult finding Junks Hole. For starters, from the airport parking lot, you take the exit (the only exit) and take your first left on the Airport Road. Go past the National Bank of Anguilla and head straight right through the intersection at Albert Lake’s Supermarket. Continue on this track for about 3 miles more and then take your left over the slight hill and head into Island Harbor.

Go past the village and head past it for about half a mile or so. At the top of the hill, take a left and you’ll find yourself on a wide graveled road that slopes downwards. This road divides into a Y formation. Keep towards the right and head into the palm trees and you’ll know your nearing Junks Hole.

Passing time on Junks Hole

The swimming opportunities here are excellent, but as with all beaches in the Atlantic, the surf and currents can be strong at certain times. When the surf and currents are high, they tend to pull you more towards the east. Strong swimmers will love the challenge of swimming here, but this could spell trouble for a weaker swimmer. When the surf is weak, you can even swim right out into the bay for quite some time and still stand up.

Snorkeling is another great adventure sport that you could venture into when at Junks Hole. Start by jumping in at Palm Grove and then snorkel towards the offshore rock. Stay alert for small Rays, although they are beautiful, they can cause a lot of discomfort and pain and are generally found near the sandy areas. When snorkeling, the fish and the coral become more and more unique, the further you head into the ocean.

Accommodation wise, there aren’t many places to stay at in Junks Hole, but with the weather being so great all year round, and the beaches being crispy clean and so beautiful, who wouldn’t want to spend some time in this unusual place? What with Nat Richardson’s PalmGrove Bar and Grill catering to your every whim and fancy, you wouldn’t be disappointed at Junks Hole, not even for a minute.

Island harbor

The pleasant and picturesque little fisherman’s village of Island Harbor is famous all over the world for its enormous fishing and lobstering opportunities. Even more appealing is the fact that this tiny little village with its charming little houses and kitschy beach bars has a slight Irish feel to it. Being a fisherman’s village, this island has a harbor that is chock full of small homely fishing boats, lending it that pleasant, cheery island air that is so sought after by most tourists.

Situated on the Northern end of Anguilla, this island has a crescent shaped beach that is carefully and spectacularly lined with palm trees and the surrounding sea weed lined waters that lap away gently at the sandy shores, make Island Harbor one of the top ten tourist destinations in the world. What makes Island Harbor more enchanting is its quiet, relaxed atmosphere and the fact that this beach till today remains commercial free. Here is where you can go to sip on a drink and enjoy some tasty barbecue. Here is where the local fishermen are more than willing to take you for one of those remarkable boat rides to Scrub Island or perhaps take you fishing in waters offshore. What’s more, this little village also boasts of having the most delightful luncheon destinations in all of Anguilla – Scilly Cay!

Scilly Quay or Cay is a three minute boat ride away from Island Harbor and offers some excellent swimming and snorkeling opportunities for adventure freaks. And since Island Harbor is the central hub for lobster fishing, there are plenty of photographing opportunities for all of those budding photographers out there, what with all those quaint Anguillan boats and the lobster traps as subjects, Island Harbor is indeed a photographer’s paradise.

Travelers come to Island Harbor for the quiet atmosphere and the natural beauty. And being a sheltered fishing village, Island Harbor is not particularly a resort area. A typical day in Island Harbor will have you walking along the beach that is colorfully lined with fishing boats and towards the late afternoon, you’ll also see the day’s catch lined up near the boats. To the east of Island Harbor lies the Navigation Hill together with some of the most spectacular views in the Caribbean.

Climate on Island Harbor

Like all the other countries and islands in the Caribbean’s, the climate on Island Harbor is tropical and is moderated by the northeastern winds. September and October are the main storm months.

Things to do on Island Harbor

On Island Harbor, there are plenty of activities that you can indulge yourself in, these are:

Fishing – Since the waters are always calm, fishing is fairly easy. The only obstacles would be the sea weed that floats on the surface of the water. What with all the fishing boats that pull up right at the shore, fishing is indeed a popular sport on the island.

Snorkeling – There aren’t any remarkable snorkeling opportunities to speak off but you could take a free boat ride to Scilly Cay and snorkel around that side.

Hiking

Swimming.

Eating out in Island Harbor

The Anguillas are known for their exotic culinary delights and finding a good place to eat here should not be a problem at all. Some of the famous eateries for travelers are Hibernia, Smitty’s Bar and Restaurant, Scilly Cay, Arawak and KoKo’s

Getting ‘Accommodated’ in Island Harbor

Since it is quite a tourist oriented locale, finding the right kind of accommodation isn’t too much of a problem. Some of the more famous rentals include: Arawak Beach Inn, K’s Cove, Terra Firma, Villa Romantica, Jems, Tamarind, Villa Elegante and Wesley House.

Places to go to

Big Spring Cave: Has some of the most unique artifacts dating back to thousands of years ago. There are about 20 motifs carved into the rock and these are best viewed during the late afternoons.

- Lobster Village

- Big Spring National Park

- Scrub Island

- Long Salt Pond

For those of you who are trying to escape the chaotic madness of the tourist thronged islands, Island Harbor will come as a blessing to you. From the blue, red and yellow fishing boats to sea weed lined shores, Island Harbor has it all.

Forest Bay

Anguilla….many might not even have heard of this place and for those who’re hearing this for the first time, might as well think it to be some kind of a sea creature or some cocktail even. That guess was close but then again….go fish!!! Anguilla is a home to lavish beach resorts and well, beaches of course, 33 beaches to be more specific. The Caribbean waters boasting of turquoise color with white sandy beaches wherever you set foot into (accept in your room!) , it is quite a place that would urge to indulge your self and bring out that sloth in you, just laying away as you see the world go by.

Or, on the other hand, you can put that laziness of yours aside and enjoy a little with activities like snorkeling, diving, getting up close and personal with dolphins in their habitat, etc. So many beaches in this island itself, where do you go? I mean it surely isn’t possible to go visit all the 33 beaches that Anguilla has to offer you. Ever thought about the Forest Bay beach? This is one of those few beaches that has extremely shallow water with the breath taking view making it a must see attraction in your “Anguilla To-Do List”.

Forest Bay area is a perfect combination of beauty meets culture giving spectators a clear view of St. Martin and St. Barths which could might as well make the perfect portrait of paradise. Getting to Forest Bay couldn’t get easier because as soon as you leave the airport, all you have to do is follow the signs to the Straw Hat Restaurant which is quite famous in this part of the island.

One of the main attractions of Forest Bay is its beach side villas that you can rent out. This simply means that you can stay near the beach itself. Like quite a few beaches in Anguilla, Forest Bay is also secluded most of the time making it a perfect getaway for a private picnic with your partner or even your entire family.

Of course, the only party pooper for your dream picnic will be that there aren’t many trees around so there is no possibility of any shade. If you plan on a picnic in this area, it is always advised that you carry your umbrella with you.

You deserve nothing but the best and that is exactly what Forest Bay has in store for you. There is a reason that this beach is pretty much secluded because lets admit it, Anguilla is not the most talked about island in the Caribbean which makes it the best destination for people who love their privacy but at the same time experience nature first hand. The sunset that you can witness from the Straw Hat restaurant is one sight that should not be missed and if you’re really looking forward to pamper yourself, renting out a villa can do wonders for you.

If you’re still thinking about the right destination to take your loved one, think no further. Let the calm and soothing environment of Forest Bay take care of you and once you indulge into nature’s many sights, leaving this beach is the last thing you’d want to do.
